Hypermasculinity

Hypermasculinity!

Q: Explain how sexual behaviour could be socialized in males. Do you think that males who commit sexual assault are "hypermasculine"? Why and where do men learn "hypermasculine" behaviour?

A: Men have been taught that they need to be strong and more powerful over women. And if that means being more dominant over them to get what they want so be it. Sexual behaviour is socialized in men because men have a drive to impregnate as many females as possible, to create as many offspring with his genes as possible. Therefor men have a minimal criteria for sexual desire; basically, they are concerned with the women's anatomy. As long as the women looks young and healthy she is desirable.

Hypermasculinity is the exaggeration of male stereotypical behaviour such as (physical strength, aggression, body hair, body odor also the search for power. I do think males who commit sexual assault are hypermasculine since most of sexual assaults are men who have power or are looking for it. However there are still different cases where power and control are not the answer but drugs, anger, loneliness and alcohol are.

Men will learn at a young age that they need to be stronger and more powerful then women, even though they might learn then that its to protect women it can still lead to sexual assault.
Parents may raise their children to think they need to be Strong and successful to achieve their goals in life, friends and other parental units around them (teachers) may also encourage this. Also, movies and t.v shows show young men how they should act and look.
